Nithyananda to undergo potency test tomorrow

Nithyananda was issued a nonbailable warrant by the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court

Bengaluru: The Central Investigation Department sent a notice to the controversial godman Nithyananda on Friday, to present himself for the potency test atVictoria Hospital at 9.30 am on Monday. The godman will be examined by a panel of four doctors, said a senior officer from CID.

The godman will not be brought by the police, but will present himself for the potency test, the officer said. The Supreme Court on Wednesdayupheld the Karnataka High Court order that Nithyananda should undergo a potency test. "If Nithyananda fails to arrive at the hospital and violates the Supreme Court, then we will take strict action against him," he said.

Nithyananda was issued a nonbailable warrant by the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court (CJMC), Ramnagara when he failed to attend a hearing onJuly 28. Later, he had sought a stay from the Supreme Court against the potency test. Nithyananda, an accused in a rape case, had appealed before the High Court that he was not potent to commit sexual crimes. The court had ordered him to undergo a potency test to prove his claims.

An NRI had filed a sexual abuse complaint against Nithyananda in 2012, alleging that she was raped repeatedly during her five-year stay at the godman's ashram. She also alleged that Nithyananda had threatened her with dire consequences if she revealed thei incidents to anyone.

Then Karnataka Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda in June 2012 ordered the arrest of Nithyananda after several of godman's devotees alleged that they were sexually assaulted at the ashram. Cases of rape and unnatural sex were registered against Nithyananda and five others in the Bidadi police station.
