Kerala RSS leader murder: Government for CBI probe
Thiruvananthapuram: The state government on Saturday decided to recommend a CBI probe into RSS leader Elanthodath Manoj’s murder allegedly by CPM workers in Kathirur on September 1. Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala said at a press conference here that the decision was taken on the basis of DGP K.S. Balasubramanian’s report.
However, the present probe by the Crime Branch would continue till the central agency took over the case, he added. “The preliminary probe indicated certain leads. But I cannot reveal the details since it will affect the investigations,’’ he added.
Police suspected revenge killing as Manoj, 42, RSS district sharirik pramukh, was an accused in the attack on CPM leader P. Jayarajan on Thiruvonam day in 1999.
Mr Chennithala said that outside state and foreign links of the accused and conspiracy could not be ruled out. “Once a case is registered under the provisions of Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA), it is mandatory for the police to inform the government. The state government then refers the matter to the centre seeking a central agency probe,’’ he said.
