Children impressed with PM Narendra Modi’s address

Students say they will work hard to realise their dreams
Coimbatore:With notepads in hand, hundreds of children in Coimbatore assembled before the television sets on Friday afternoon. Not to watch Pogo or Chota Bheem, but to listen to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s live address to the students across India. Many schools in the city ensured that the students stayed back to watch the ‘Modi address’.
Class VI student R. Utkarsh of Angappa Senior Secondary school assiduously took notes of the speech. When Modi told the students that they should not just dream big but also work hard, it instantly struck a chord with him.
“I understand it’s not just dreams but hard work that matters. I have aimed to score high marks in my exams and I will make every effort to achieve that,” Utkarsh said. His principal K. Manonmani was enthused about the programme. She believes that her students would listen to social science lessons with more interest after this programme.
“Though we teach them about Parliament and the powers of the PM, this programme would definitely kindle interest among children to read the lessons with greater interest. This is the first time that all the students have assembled to watch a programme along with their teachers,” the principal said.
About 600 students of the school watched the programme. When there was power fluctuation, the generators which were kept ready, were promptly switched on. After listening to the Prime Minister’s address, Class XII student K. Pranav of Camford International School at Ganapathy is now eager to lap up biographies of Modi.
“The PM said students should learn from experiences of leaders by reading their biographies. I have decided to spend some time to read such books,” he said.
S.G. Kavitha, principal of the school, was puzzled when students said they also wanted to ask questions. She has asked them to list out the questions and promised to send them to the Prime Minister’s website.
“I could see the excitement in their eyes. I will collect the questions and send them to the PMO,” she told Deccan Chronicle. While CBSE schools were able to make arrangements to watch the live telecast, several matriculation and government schools stayed away from the PM’s address.
R. Vishalakshi, president of Tamil Nadu Private Schools Association, said since the telecast was optional, “We left the decision to the schools to make the arrangements. Some schools went ahead with the Teacher’s Day celebrations which they had already planned while few made arrangements for students to watch the programme,” she said.
Coimbatore chief education officer A. Gnanagowri said a few schools watched the programme while others continued with regular classes.
