BJP flounders for a fighting cause
Bengaluru: Unhappy that the BJP, which won 17 parliamentary seats from Karnataka , is not capitalizing on it to make a bigger inroad into the state by taking Central schemes to the people, several party legislators and RSS leaders note that in the last 100 days since the Narendra Modi government came to power at the Centre, the state unit has merely held one meeting of newly elected MPs.
"Barring this it has done nothing. All that was decided at the MPs' meeting was to set up an internal cell in Delhi to get more Central funds for Karnataka.
The party should have by now come up with a programme to pep up its cadre so they can help people get the benefits of Central schemes. Mr Modi has given a call for public participation in Swach Bharat and Make in India campaigns. As a ruling party, we should have held preliminary meetings on how to take these forward. Instead, we are behaving like we always do. There is no communication between party seniors and other leaders," says a senior leader, wondering why the state unit has not even done some brainstorming on such issues.
But others in the party point out that Prime Minister Modi had in his Independence Day speech promised to announce the Swacha Bharat programme on Gandhi Jayanti on October 2 and the Make in India campaign on October 11 on the occasion of Jayaprakash Narayan's birth anniversary. "Once he announces the two programmes, the state unit will take it forward," they say, noting that state BJP president, Pralhad Joshi has already announced the tour schedules of party leaders in flood -hit districts. "Even before the state's ministers could visit these districts, we are touring them. We are being proactive," asserts a party leader.
