3 workers killed in building collapse in Tamil Nadu
Tirunelveli: Three construction labourers were killed and four others injured when a portion of an old building being demolished collapsed on them at Shengottah in this district on Saturday, police said.
Fourteen workers were demolishing the structure belonging to the Shengottah Municipality for constructing a new building when a wall in the front portion collapsed this evening, trapping seven of them.
Three men, in the age group of 27-30 and hailing from Melur near Shengottah, died on the spot while four persons, pulled out of debris, had been admitted to the Government Hospital in nearby Thenkasi, police said.
Family members of the victims blocked road in front of the local bus stand, demanding suitable compensation.
Thenkasi Revenue Divisional Officer Reho Baya rushed to the spot and pacified them.
