Around 75 per cent of the land is occupied of government, railways and local body. When social status of these slums was checked, it was found that 25 per cent are forward castes. Dr M.C. Das, professor of Management Consultancy, said, “In view of Vijayawada becoming the capital, the canal bunds and river banks must be immediately cleared of slums.
This is in the best interest of people living there. Politicians will not object to it and slum dwellers would be rehabilitated properly. Most of the slum dwellers, living in hazardous conditions, are losing all the properties in floods.”
