Rs 30 Lakhs robbed in front of mill owner’s home
An unidentified person sprayed chilli powder on his face, then snatched the cash
Coimbatore:A gang sprayed chilli powder on the face of a cashier in a private mill and robbed Rs 30 lakh in broad daylight at Annur on Friday. According to the Annur police, 54-year-old Palaniappan works as a cashier at an oil mill in Kariampalayam, near Annur. The mill is owned by Chinnadurai (50), whose bungalow is situated at Alikarampalayam, near Annur.
Around 9.30 am on Friday, cashier Palaniappan had collected Rs 30 lakh from mill owner Chinnadurai’s bungalow to deposit it in the bank. After collecting the cash, Palaniappan reached the front gate of the bungalow, when an unidentified person sprayed chilli powder his face, attacked and pushed him to the ground.
He then snatched the cash bag and escaped with another man waiting on a two-wheeler in front of the bungalow. The Annur police, who rushed to spot, alerted all check-posts across Annur and the outskirts of the city. Annur DSP Karthikeyan, Annur inspector Anand Arokiyaraj and his team held enquiries with the workers at the bungalow and Palaniappan.
Superintendent of police M. Sudhakar has formed three special teams to nab the duo. The gang was spotted speeding on the Annur road towards Karumathampatti by some residents.
