O.Rajagopal is BJP’s point man in Thiruvananthapuram

Mr Shah in a meeting said that factionalism within the party should end

Thiruvananthapuram: A cleanup drive has begun in the BJP’s state unit with national president Amit Shah asking the state leaders to resolve their differences.

Senior BJP leader O. Rajagopal has been made the point man in Thiruvananthapuram.

At the core committee meeting held in Mr Shah’s presence, Mr Rajagopal was given the new responsibility when Mr Shah stressed the need for a membership campaign as the first step towards gearing up for the local body elections.

A top BJP leader told DC that at the core committee meeting convened by Mr Amit Shah, he put forth a suggestion that senior leaders should take charge of their respective districts to boost the membership campaign being kicked off from November.

At the core committee which was attended by the incumbent president and former state presidents, the Mr Shah said that factionalism has to be ended and that the leadership has to work jointly.

“So far, the norm by state president V. Muraleedharan was that he along with a few general secretaries took crucial decisions without informing the core committee members who include senior leader O. Rajagopal. So most of us would be in the dark as to what is happening in the party,” said a senior BJP leader.

Ironically, BJP national executive member and former civil servant Alphonse Kannamthanam was conspicuous by his absence in the two meetings attended by Mr Amit Shah here.
