NLC strike continues as talks fail
Unions had served a strike notice on August 18 demanding regularisation of contract workers
Chennai: The indefinite strike by over 13,000 contractor workers of NLC has entered second day on Thursday even as the talks between the trade unions and the management remains inconclusive. However, NLC sources said that strike has so far not affected power generation.
According to Jeeva Oppantha Thozilalar Sangam general secretary K. Venkatesan, the contract workers have begun an indefinite strike since Wednesday night to press their charter of demands following the failure of talks between the Joint Action Council (JAC) of trade unions with NLC management happened in the presence of assistant commissioner of labour P. Sivarajan.
The unions had served a strike notice on August 18 demanding regularisation of contract workers and increasing wages of contract workers until they are absorbed into the service.
“If the strike continued for two more days, the power generation will be affected. Hence the state and the Central government should immediately intervene to fulfil the justified demands of the workers,” Mr Venkatesan said, condemning the management for refusing to implement the SC order to regularise all the contract workers.
