Kiran Bedi: Acche Din have arrived
Call to end sexual harassment
Coimbatore:The Narendra Modi government is the only regime that acts on public complaints sent even through emails, said Dr Kiran Bedi, India's first woman IPS officer. Speaking about Acche Din at a session organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry and Indian Women Network, Dr Kiran Bedi said people can directly participate in governance now and contact the Prime Minister.
"The name Jan Shan Yojana for a scheme recently launched by our Prime Minister was suggested by the two common men from south India. An ordinary man can now contact our Prime Minister; this is a change in India, which may lead to many changes to our country," she said.
Constitution of India has guaranteed equal rights to all irrespective of religion, community, caste, sex and creed difference continues to exist. Men and women are equal. Our body is just like a vehicle. There is no difference except biologically. The difference is only in the mind set of the people. Every woman must develop their knowledge skills through education.
"Women must possess the fire to develop skills and grow. Women need to apply their mind and make use of the opportunities that come their way. Japan is a country sans domestic help. Men and women work together at home. But we have still a misconception that women are confined to kitchen.
It is important to do the right thing at the right time and use the skills for development and networking. If you work for your goals, you will face lot of challenges and tasks and that is the law of nature. But it is important to overcome these challenges to achieve the goal in life," Dr Bedi said.
It is important to respect our culture she added saying that those settling abroad are also returning back for as they value our rich culture. It is important to nip sexual harassment in the bud as it could later turn disastrous. Every work place should have a committee that deals with sexual harassment issues, she added.
Modi can achieve the vision of Dr.A.P.J.Abdul Kalam in next five years. She also said that there are no legislations to appoint a Governor in a question to the appointment of new governor of Kerala former CJI, Sathasivam.
