Mastering the mini skirts in monsoon

Here’s how to avoid bloopers while wearing miniskirts, when stepping out of a car or climbing stairs
Hyderabad: The miniskirt is in this season. From English model Cara Delevigne to Alia Bhatt, Bipasha Basu closer home, most have been spotted wearing the tiny piece. Minis, however, can be risky business. The right length, the right way to sit and to stand can make wearing a miniskirt a nightmare or a hit. Here’s how to wear the miniskirt the right way.
Fashion blogger Priyanka Chigurupati says, “This season, the mini is about the skater and flared styles. The fun part about this is that this style suits all body types, athletic, apple, hourglass and pear-shaped, again depending on how it’s worn.” She suggests that high-waisted styles with fitted tops work well for those with pear and hourglass bodies. But those with an apple-shaped body should go in for a flared mini with a sleeveless tank. A vest and booties would look great for an athletic boy frame.
The common fashion malfunction that occurs when people wear short skirts is that they end up showing much more skin than they intend to. Priyanka says, “Miniskirts shouldn’t go higher than mid-thigh if you’re short. If you’re a little taller, the length should be a little longer as well.”
She adds, “Your skirt should be at a comfortable length when you sit down. So, it is a good idea to check how high it rides up, before getting out of your home. Once your skirt passes all these tests, it gets easier to carry yourself.”
Designer Neha Agarwal has another point. “It would help if you wear shorts under your skirt. That way, one wouldn’t have to worry about climbing up stairs,” she says, adding, “Teenagers can opt for flared miniskirts with a lot of Aztec prints, while those in their twenties can opt for quirky designs with bright colours. Women in their middle age can stick to pencil cuts or an A-line cut. It looks classy and they can always opt for sober colours.”
To avoid a disaster while getting out of a car, or while sitting, Priyanka says, ‘it’s all about thinking like a lady’. “When you get out of a car, turn to a side with both your legs together and get out or when you sit, sit with your legs crossed or angled to a side. Don’t stand with your legs apart.”
