Pulichintala without access remains off limits to tourists

Lack of road connectivity is seen as the main hurdle into development of project site
Guntur: The absence of an approach road and lack of road connectivity to the Pulichintala multipurpose irrigation project is being seen as the main hurdle into development of the project site into a tourist attraction. One has to spend a good part of five hours to reach the project if one uses the public transport system like APSRTC bus and four hours in private vehicles due to bad roads.
The Nagarjunasagar project is a huge tourist attraction and brings in good revenue to the state. Similarly, Pulichintala, has all the features of tourist centre, but the government has not yet evolved plans to turn it into a tourist centre, disappointing nature lovers. D. Prahlad Rao, a teacher, said that Pulichintala belongs to Guntur district but the government has provided transportation facility from Krishna district. “This effectively dissua-des people from Guntur from visiting the project,” he said.
Tourist operator K. Ganesh said, “We have to go to Sattenapalli or Acha-mpet from Guntur and then reach Madipadu taking an auto or a bus and then walk at least five km to reach Pulichintala project.” He said that though express buses are available till Sattenapalli, one has to board passenger buses to reach Achampeta and Madipadu.
Mr Ganesh lamented that the road to Madipadu from Achampeta are very bad and asked the government to lay approach roads and repair the Guntur-Achampeta-Madipadu road for the convenience of the people, mainly tourists.
A student, V Balaji, who went to do a project with his friends, said that one can easily reach the project from Jaggaiahpet and Muktyal. He said that APSRTC operates buses every 10 minutes to Jaggaiahpet from Vijayawada and passenger buses and auto rickshaws to Muktyala.
