Odisha: Maoist camp destroyed by police

Police seized an SLR rifle and a pistol from the camp which was later destroyed

Koraput (Odisha): The Odisha police on Wednesday destroyed a Maoist camp inside a forest at Majhiguda under Boipariguda police station limits, nearly 50 km from here.

Briefing newsmen at Koraput, inspector general Yashwant Jethwa said that acting on a tip-off that the left wing ultras were running a camp in Majhiguda forest, a joint team of police forces of Koraput and Malkangiri districts began a combing operation in the area.

“During the operation, the team came across a Maoist camp deep inside the forest. Later, they seized an SLR rifle and a pistol from the camp which was later destroyed,” the IG said. There was no encounter during the operation as the Maoists had fled the camp by the time the security forces arrived at the spot.
