Coimbatore:Television sets, computers and Internet connections are being given an “emergency check” at the 1,800 government schools in Coimbatore district. Private schools are sprucing up their smartboards. Excited students are ready with notepads.
All for ‘Guru’ NaMo’s live show on Friday. Teacher’s Day has never been so livewire on Coimbatore school campuses. Prominent schools in Coimbatore are gearing up for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s live, televised interaction with students across schools of India on Teacher’s Day.
The state education department has asked all government schools to keep TVs and computers glitch-free to enable students to watch the PM’s address. “All principals of government schools have been informed about the interaction of Prime Minister and asked to check out the TV sets and computers to make sure that students can listen to the programme without any technical glitches,” said Coimbatore chief education officer A. Gnanagowri.
Besides, all government schoolteachers will get a special SMS greeting them on Teacher’s Day, the CEO said. Private schools are more excited. About 3,000 students of SBOA matriculation higher secondary school at Chokkampudur will gather in their classrooms and watch the PM’s live address on smartboards.
Speaking to DC, principal Geetha Gopinath of SBOA school said students would hear the PM on smartboards in their classrooms. “The control room in the school will beam the telecast on more than the 70 smartboards we have. We expect over 3,000 students to watch. We have spoken to the students about the benefits of listening to the PM and they are keen,” she said.
She said the students have also arranged cultural programmes and felicitations for their teachers to celebrate Teacher’s Day. “We have given complete freedom to our students to devise their programmes this year. We are very excited,” Ms Gopinath said.
Ms R.Gowri, principal, Sindhi Vidyalaya matriculation higher secondary school, at Velandipalayam, said school students would hear the Prime Minister and “take notes”. “We have Onam celebration along with the Teacher’s Day function. Our students will draw poo kalams to greet their teachers. They will hear the PM and take notes,” she said, adding that a get-together with former teachers has also been arranged.
