Delayed digitisation not a concern: Dish TV CEO

Government’s decision to postpone digitisation isn't affecting the big players

Hyderabad: The government’s decision to postpone digitisation may have come as a relief for small cable operators but for the big players it is not a cause of concern, opines Salil Kapoor, chief operating officer of DishTv.

“We have a strong base in the southern market and as far as digitisation is concerned, I think there is still potential as the consumers are still there,” Mr Kapoor said at the launch of a new brand Zing, an exclusive regional entertainment offering in Hyderabad.

Out of the 14 million TV households in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, only 3.3 million have adopted DTH service while the remaining 11 million are the consumer stuck on analog and that is where opportunity lies.

Now out of this 11 million target audience, Mr Kapoor feels are some 3-4 million consumers who want to shift to DTH but are still apprehensive about costing, so that is where the regional specific brand comes into place.

Asia’s largest DTH service provider has a market share of about 29 per cent in India and about 27-28 per cent in AP and Telangana alone. So they plan to rise this share by launcing Zing.
