Vizag lawyers seek High Court

Back capital panel’s suggestion to set up HC in Vizag
Visakhapatnam: Members of the Vizag Bar association on Tuesday passed an unanimous resolution endorsing the recommendation of the Sivaramakrishnan committee on setting up of state High Court at Vizag. They have also decided to take the demand to its logical end.
Bar Association members met on Tuesday at the Bar Association Hall for extraordinary general body meeting to discuss the endorsement of establishment of High Court at Visakhapatnam by Sivaramakrishnan Committee in its report submitted to the Union government.
President of Visakhapatnam Bar Association J. Pridhviraj traced the historical demand since decades for setting up of the High Court at Visakhaptnam. He explained the members that in 1993 members led an eight-month struggle for High Court.
Past president N.V. Badarinath read out the portion of the report of Sivaramakrishnan report that favoured location of High Court here.
Senior advocate and president of Forum of Legal professionals Kuppili Muralidhar said that lot of awareness is required to be created about the members of general public that High court is necessary for everyone and not only the advocates. It is the President of India in consultation with the chief justice of India and state High Court shall take the decision to set up High court in Visakhapatnam, he said.
Forum of legal professionals conducted several seminars and academic programmes explaining the usefulness of the High Court in the city.
Another senior advocate Kandala Srinivasa Rao said unless political pressure is put, obtaining High Court here is difficult because political power in this part of the state to get things going is lacking.
Senior advocates and large number of junior advocates participated in the over two-hour long meeting.
