India receives pending salaries of Iraq nurses
Thiruvananthapuram: Health Department of Iraq has handed over the pending salary dues coming to about 92,450 dollars of 46 nurses who were working in a hospital in Tikrit.
The nurses were forced to flee Tikrit following the escalation of war in the area. According to NORKA Minister K C Joseph the Indian Consulate General in Baghdad had informed him that health department had handed over a cheque of 10,68,63,900 Iraqi Dinars.
The consulate has received two months’ salary dues of 31 nurses and four and a half months salary dues of another 15 nurses.
Though the salary of the nurses used to be disbursed in US dollars, the Health Department has sanctioned the amount in Dinars.
This might result in a loss of 65 to 75 US dollars to the nurses.
Indian consulate general has informed that in the current volatile situation in Iraq they were not in a position to say whether the salary would be disbursed in dollars and when.
The Minister said that NORKA CEO has conveyed to the nurses that they should agree to bear a slight loss. He said further action would be taken after receiving the opinion of the nurses.
