Shy people 'surf more, disclose less' on Facebook

The study also found that women divulge more personal information than men do

Washington: A new study has found that shy people spend more time on Facebook but disclose less information.

Dr. Pavica Sheldon said that introverts and people who are lonelier spend more time on Facebook than extroverts do and using the site doesn't always mean posting on it.

However, the study shows that even though introverts spend more time, the relationship benefits of Facebook tend to accrue to extroverts, narcissists and people who desire great control over how they present themselves.

According to Dr. Sheldon's research, the 'rich get richer' hypothesis is at play even on Facebook as the more extroverted a person is, the more status posts he or she is likely to make.

The study also found that women divulge more personal information than men do.
