Deepika Padukone, Arjun Kapoor’s big hello
DC’s Hyderabad office receives two celebrity guests
Hyderabad: An air of excitement enveloped the Deccan Chronicle office, Hyderabad, on Tuesday evening as Deepika Padukone, Arjun Kapoor and Homi Adajania walked in for a chat with the winners of the DC online contest for Finding Fanny. They were also on a whirlwind tour of the city.
Dressed in white with a peach jacket, Deepika was followed by Arjun, who had his Finding Fanny glasses on, and Homi, the director of the film.
The actress sprang the first surprise as she walked into the main newsroom, making Tuesday, the first ever working day when work just stopped at the office with many wondering what had just happened.
As Homi started talking about the inception of the movie, Deepika interrupted, “I would like to take a little bit of credit here. You narrated the story to me while shooting Cocktail and it stayed with me. Even though you had forgotten about the movie, I reminded you about it.” And Homi answers, “It’s on record now. The film was possible because of Deepika.”
When Homi was asked about how he got such a cast together, Arjun replies before him, “He narrated the story to us naked.” And they again start laughing, as Homi says, “Yes, that’s how I got my way around it.”
We also ask him about the book that’s coming up on Finding Fanny. “The book is written by my co-writer Kersi Khambatta. He wrote the 200-plus page book based on my short story. This was during the time of my film Cocktail. I told him not to publish the book as I wanted to make it a movie. The book is going to be different, it’s darker and there’s more depth to the characters. The characters in the book has more sexual fantasies and everything’s just more intense.”
Arjun, who often plays troubled characters onscreen, will again be seen as a troubled mechanic in the film. “I think we find our demons in our characters sometimes. In Finding Fanny, my character blames everyone else for everything. He refuses to deal with anything. I think at one point of my life, even I was like that.”
We also ask them about Ranveer Singh’s friendship with Arjun and his cameo in the film. Arjun says, “I think we are well beyond the myth of actors not being friends. Professional
and personal life is different for us.”
Soon, it’s time for them to leave, with Arjun insisting on taking his cupcakes along. A round of photographs and then they are gone, leaving everyone in awe of their jokes, frankness and their ‘star’ status.
