Berth pangs, but Digvijay Singh away
Sources said the CM could buy a month's time as party leader in-charge of state was set to fly to US
Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will once again, stall the expansion of his cabinet, even though at least 25 legislators have landed in New Delhi to lobby for berths, two days ahead of the scheduled meeting of Mr. Siddaramaiah and KPCC president Dr G. Parameshwar with party president Sonia Gandhi.
Sources in the party said the Chief Minister could buy a month's time, as party general secretary in-charge of Karnataka, Digvijay Singh, was set to fly to the United States on a private visit. In his absence, Mrs. Gandhi seems unlikely to push ahead with the expansion.
With Mrs. Gandhi and party vice president Rahul Gandhi away in their respective constituencies, "the aspirants are meeting leaders like party general secretaries Oscar Fernandes and B. K. Hariprasad, former ministers M. Veerappa Moily, K. Rahman Khan and K. H. Muniyappa. Congress party leader in Lok Sabha, M. Mallikarjuna Kharge, is busy in Maharshatra, where he is heading the panel to finalise party candidates for forthcoming Assembly elections in that state," explained the leader.
Meanwhile the CM also faces pressure from some candidates who lost the Assembly polls in 2013, intent on securing their share of posts of chairpersons of state-owned boards and corporations.
