Vizianagaram: In yet another blatant attack by sand mafia on revenue officials in Vizianagaram district, a driver of a tractor carrying sand illegally tried to kill a revenue inspector of Pusapatirega. Revenue officer B. Muralikrishna was hit by the tractor when he tried to stop the sand laden vehicle near Konayyapalem under Pusapatirega police station limits in the district on Monday afternoon.
According to the police, Muralikrishna had gone to Kandivalasagedda, where the illegal sand quarrying is rampant, to stop illegal transportation of sand after receiving a tip-off. He tried to intercept the tractors carrying sand at Konnyyapalem. But four of the tractors’ drivers didn’t stop the vehicles and proceeded towards Pusapatirega. However, one driver of the tractor tried to hit the revenue inspector with the vehicle in an attempt to kill him. But, Muralikrishna escaped with minor injuries.
SI Pusapatirega, Sheik Fakhruddin has registered a case under Section 332 of IPC and hunt is on to nab the culprits and others in the illegal trade in the area.
