Vidhu Vinod Chopra pledges Rs 11 lakh to save Mumbai Film Festival
Mumbai: Cinema Lovers saved the day for Mumbai’s popular film festival (Mumbai Film Festival) organised by the Mumbai Academy Of Moving Image (MAMI). After their sole sponsor Reliance Entertainment pulled out, they were uncertain of hosting the festival this year which was scheduled to take place in October.
That’s when an online fund-raising campaign helped the academy raise money for the festival. The campaign #plegde4MAMI pulled in members of the film fraternity and other cinema lovers to donate and contribute to the festival.
According to reports the campaign helped spread the word among the film fraternity who made generous donations, and the academy also opened their website for other fans to contribute.
The online campaign raised approximately Rs 1.5 crore in two days. Reports also state that filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra made a generous donation of Rs 11 lakh, along with him Cinestaan Film Company, promoted by Anand Mahindra and Rohit Khattar contributed Rs 60 lakh towards the festival.
Other eminent cinema personalities have also pledged their support including Rajkumar Hirani, Manish Mundra, Vivek Kajaria, Nilesh Navlakha, Hansal Mehta ,and Anupama Chopra .
