Thanks to Hyderabad civic body laxity, 1-ft water at Trinity Church
Hyderabad: The premises of the Trinity Church at Begumpet has one-foot standing water. The church compound, which covers about 1 acre, was given to the GHMC which asked for space to dump construction material required for building a concrete wall to an adjacent nala.
“This problem has been occurring for the last four years and there has be no solution. As the church is located at the end of the lane, most of the time drainage water flows right in front of the church,” said Father Valentine, of the church.
Though the GHMC pumps out the water, the water level doesn’t go down much. He said that sometimes the drainage water mixes up with the rain water and takes a week to dry up. “A year ago the construction of the wall of the church was sanctioned but the work got delayed. We will get it done at the earliest,” said Suresh Kumar, chief engineer. GHMC.
Narrow drainpipes cause choking at Chikoti Garden
Low-lying areas on the Shoppers Stop-Mayuri Marg stretch at Begumpet are facing difficulty due to the choking of the 3-inch sewage pipelines. This results in water-logging on the streets and bylanes in Chikoti Garden, especially on Streets 1 and 2. “The Kukatpally pipeline is obstructing small drain lines. Every now and then we have this problem. The pipelines need to be changed,” said Ravinder, a resident. Water Board general manager Anand Swaroop said work remodelling the sewage system could not be taken up due to lack of funds.
