‘Feels great to be romanced by Prem’
Mumbai: Sonam Kapoor, who has been paired up with Salman Khan for the first time in Rajshri Productions’ Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, seems to be in awe of her new co-star. Sonam says, “I have already shot with Salman for 30 days for Prem Ratan Dhan Paayo. He’s extremely professional and has a high emotional quotient. He’s never rude or temperamental. He makes sure that everyone on the sets is taken care of. At the same time, he is an intelligent actor. People think he doesn’t put in effort but the truth is he is one of the most hardworking actors I know. He’s always on time. He knows all his lines and the script from start to finish.”
Being a Rajshri heroine is nostalgic for Sonam. She says, “I was in my teens when Vivaah released. I grew up on Hum Aapke Hai Kaun and Maine Pyaar Kiya. It’s amazing to be romanced by Prem.” The actress feels that the audience still connects with old school romance. “That’s why all the TV serials are working. Middle-class India is all about this. This is part of our culture, this is who we are. We have become Westernised, but there is a basic idea about men and women in cinema and television. Female characters in all of Soorajji’s films are strong characters. Also, it’s always the men trying to woo the women, not the other way round.”
Sonam is also looking forward to her next two releases, Khoobsoorat and Dolly Ki Doli. Her last film Bewakoofiyaan didn’t fare as well as expected. “I’m growing with every film. Ranjhanaa and Bhaag Milkha Bhaag has made my climb slow and steady. Bewakoofiyaan did average business. It did what it was supposed to do. The film gave me a great relationship with YRF who are making very interesting films,” she says.
