Software decoded for Tamil Nadu officers

Govt has come up with a mobile application that would help employees with computer languages
Chennai: Don’t be surprised if you hear of thousands of Tamil Nadu government officials doing coding in computer languages like C++, Visual Basic and Oracle soon.
Thanks to the initiative taken by the state IT department, which has come up with a mobile application that would help government employees with computer languages they wish to learn, the prospect of officers learning to do coding is bright. This initiative is a part of the state government’s e-learning portal, which is to be launched soon.
“Tamil Nadu government has been one of the pioneers in implementation of e-governance in the country. Our state has consistently been among the top five ranks in the Union IT ministry’s e-transactions portal (etaal) with more electronic transactions being done as part of state government’s e-governance project,” a senior official in the state IT department said.
Pointing out that the state government had a big portfolio of people related online services, the official said that to operate a large gamut of online based services government employees need to be made tech-savvy.
“To make all government employees tech savvy we have made the mobile application in such a way that they can learn all computer languages and operating systems on their own. We also plan to come up with more such mobile applications in the future, which will be uploaded onto a dedicated portal to be launched soon,” the official said.
The ICT Academy of Tamil Nadu (ICTACT) would be the knowledge partner for the programme. Welcoming the initiative, S. Ganesan, a government employee, said that this initiative would not only help government employees learn latest computer languages at their own pace but also help poor people learn computers free of cost.
