AIADMK only party working for people: CM Jayalalithaa
She was unanimously elected as her party’s general secretary for the seventh consecutive term
Chennai: Asserting the AIADMK’s spectacular performance in the assembly and Lok Sabha elections has wiped out all opponents from the state political arena, Chief Minister Jayalalithaa who was unanimously elected as her party’s general secretary for the seventh consecutive term, said the AIADMK was the only party working for the people.
Calling upon her party members to remain united, she said the AIADMK had no enemies anymore, especially after the astounding victory in the recent Lok Sabha polls. “We have attained a massive victory in assembly and the Lok Sabha elections. Today we can’t even see our political enemies. We see only people all over. The only party working for people is AIADMK. Our only vision is to work for people and if we (continue to) work united, then we will see more victories,” she said thanking the party members for electing her as general secretary.
Her election for the AIADMK’s top post was announced by the organising secretary Visalakshi Nedunchezhiyan on Friday. About 2,467 nominations were filed on her behalf. There were no other contestants.
During the April Lok Sabha polls, Ms Jayalalithaa stemmed the Modi wave and piloted her AIADMK to an unprecedented win in 37 of TN’s 39 seats.
“You have unanimously elected me as the general secretary and I accept it with happiness and emotions. Many have travelled from various parts and filed nominations for me and I thank them. I have been working for 26 years and the party has attained a massive growth. When our leader MGR passed away, the cadres were about 17 lakh and now it has grown to 1.5 crore,” she told her cheering cadres.
“Puratchi thalaivai Amma alone understands the concerns of the poor, she alone can ensure the uplift of the masses,” an excited woman cadre screamed as senior leaders distributed sweets to the massive turnout of party men and women who had come from all over the state to cheer the Chief Minister. The excitement is spread over to the districts with various party wings celebrating the CM’s unanimous election by distributing sweets and bursting crackers.
