VS Achuthanandan asks Oommen Chandy, Ramesh Ramesh to quit
Order to further probe Titanium case
Thiruvananthapuram: Opposition Leader V.S. Achuthanandan on Thursday sought the resignation of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, Home Minister Ramesh Chenithala and PWD Minister V.K. Ibrahim Kunju in view of the order of Inquiry Commissioner and Special Judge (Vigilance) for further investigation into the Titanium case. Mr Achuthanandan said the court order was a severe blow to the Chief Minister.
Though Mr Chandy evaded questions from the media asking the reporters to “go and read the entire judgment,” many say the Chief Minister might land in trouble if a case is registered against him. Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala will also come under pressure to give up the vigilance portfolio in view of the court direction. It may be recalled that Mr Chandy had given up the vigilance portfolio in 2011 when the court ordered a probe into the charges against him in connection with the palmolein case.
Meanwhile, CPM state committee said the Chief Minister and his cabinet colleagues should step down to ensure a free and fair probe. “With the Chief Minister at the helm and Ramesh Chennithala heading vigilance department, one cannot expect a fair probe. The case should be handed over to the CBI for a detailed investigation, it added.
