Generation of wind energy brings relief
Generation from wind mills dropped to 8.07 million units (MUs) on August 18 from 28
Chennai: Wind power generation has picked up once again in the state providing relief to the public who were facing power cuts during the last week.
According to data available on the website of Tamil Nadu Transmission Corporation, wind energy generation on Thursday morning was 1,626 MW and on Wednesday evening it was 2,568 MW as against 97 MW on August 21 and 925 MW late on Aug 20.Tangedco was forced to enforce load shedding in the districts following drop in wind power generation in last week.
Generation from wind mills dropped to 8.07 million units (MUs) on August 18 from 28.14 MUs generated a day before. However, the generation from the wind mills started picking up once again and on Wednesday generation from wind mills was 45.35 MUs.
A senior Tangedco official said that the generation is more than 1,000 MW even in the morning hours. Winds usually pick up in the evening and the energy generation is also high in the evening the official said, adding that wind power season would last till end of September. The state has about 7,340 MW of installed wind energy capacity.
