Chandrababu Naidu firm on Vijayawada being a part of new capital region

Tadepalli has a huge chunk of wasteland, which can host several capital buildings

Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is batting for the ‘Greater Administrative Capital Region’ in Krishna-Guntur within the proposed 192.5-km Outer Ring Road. However, most of this region falls under the Vijayawada-Guntur-Tenali-Mangalgiri Urban Development Authority area, which has been considered as “unfeasible and undesirable” by the Sivaramakrishnan Committee.

Sources in Naidu’s camp revealed that the Chief Minister is for decentralization of development but not for decentralisation of administrative capital.

The capital will be built on the lines of National Capital Region of Delhi. Land acquisition process is on the verge of completion for the proposed Inner Ring Road of 86 km. There are two proposals for the ORR, one of 172 km and the other of 192.5 km. The IRR and ORR will touch the Gannavaram airport. The NH 5, NH 9 and the railway mainline will pass through them and it will have abundant water due to the Krishna River cutting the region in two halves.

According to the AP State Remote Sensing Centre of Planning department, Tadepalli has a huge chunk of wasteland, which can host several capital buildings. In Guntur district alone 21,595 acre of land has been identified. Remote sensing mapping shows that except for miniscule parts of Tenali, the entire capital region will not be affected by cyclone and heavy winds.

The NH9, connecting Machilipatnam Port, will intersect the ORR near Vuyyuru. A few suggestions from the Sivaramakrishnan Committee will be taken.
