Pandas may fake pregnancies to lead better lives
London: A Chinese expert has claimed that pandas fake pregnancies to have a better lifestyle.
Recently experts at Chengdu Giant Panda Breeding Research Centre , who were preparing for a six-year-old panda to give birth, were shocked after their panda Ai Hin suddenly stopped showing signs of pregnancy, Metro.co.uk reported.
Wu Kongju, an expert at the CGPBRC said that 'phantom pregnancies' are very common among pandas and pandas suspected of being pregnant at the breeding centre were given their own air-conditioned rooms, round-the-clock attention, and other 'enrichment programmes'.
Wu added that they also receive more buns, fruits and bamboo, so some clever pandas have used this to their advantage to improve their quality of life.
