Fate of 174 tech colleges hangs in balance as JNTU yet to take decision

JNTU had reduced in some branches of engineering
Hyderabad: The Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad, is still weighing its options on granting approval to the 174 engineering colleges in Telangana. These colleges were earlier rejected for counselling by the university.
A High Court division bench on Thursday upheld the single judge order declaring the decision of the university to reduce capacity in some branches of engineering as void. Sources said that this decision has been revoked by the JNTU-H in line with the HC order, but no decision has been taken yet on the fate of the 174 engineering colleges.
Meanwhile, AP State Council of Higher Education chairman Prof. L. Venugopal Reddy said that Eamcet web counselling in the first phase can’t be extended as classes have to begin on September 1. Thursday was the last day for students in Eamcet web counselling to change the options in choosing colleges and streams. He also said the APSCHE had not received any notification on the increase in intake of the 27 colleges, as per the HC order.
