Medak bypoll to be a noisy affair

Jaggareddy, Prabhakar, Suneetha file papers

Hyderabad: The Medak Lok Sabha byelection is set to be an interesting and noisy affair. The entry of Congress turned BJP nominee T. Jayaprakash Reddy, a known opponent of Telangana and of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and his family for long, has added fuel to the fire. As filing of nominations ended on Wednesday, the war of words began between the TRS and BJP leaders. In all, 18 nominations were filed for the seat, including Kotha Prabhakar Reddy (TRS), T. Jayaprakash Reddy (BJP) and Suneetha Laxma Reddy (Congress), all of whom claimed they would win big.

The seat had fallen vacant following the resignation of Mr Rao. Major irrigation minister T. Harish Rao called the Medak byelection a fight between “Telangana vadi” TRS nominee Mr Prabhakar Reddy and Telangana drohi (betrayer) Mr Jayaprakash Reddy. While claiming a TRS win a foregone conclusion, Mr Harish Rao said all that was left now was a fight between BJP and Congress for second and third places about which the TRS had no interest.

Mr Jagga Reddy hit back, “It’s a homecoming for me. I was a BJP activist earlier. TRS is more concerned about bypolls than people’s welfare. People are seeking a change. If BJP wins, the constituency will get huge funds.” He added, “If I win I will show the tamasha. KCR will have sleepless nights.
