K Chandrashekar Rao eager to revive pending townships

KCR to revive pending townships in the city

Hyderabad: Impressed by the townships on his visit to Singapore and Malaysia, Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has decided to revive pending townships in the city. The Chief Minister told officials that the core city was already heavily congested and unless townships with all integrated facilities like schools, colleges, hospitals, shopping malls etc., were developed on the city outskirts, it would not be possible to decongest the city.

Even the Hyderabad Metro Rail will be of no use if people are not encouraged to move to the city outskirts, he said. A mega integrated township at Tellapur spread over 400 acres had been proposed in 2007. The project cost was estimated at Rs 2,000 crore for developing SEZ for IT companies, offices, residential and recreational facilities close to the Outer Ring Road.

However due to a slump in the realty market in 2008, the project was halted. Similarly, another mega township project at Srinagar village in Maheshwaram mandal was proposed in 2008. It was supposed to come up on 750 acres and was planned to be completed in three phases. Villas and apartments were planned on 375 acres. The plan was to complete the project by 2014 but it too failed to take off. Both these mega townships were planned to cater to the needs of software companies and employees in Cyberabad. However, there was no progress on these projects due to political uncertainty in the state between 2009 and 2014.
