‘Molester’ ex-MLA gets clean chit
Telegu Desam government withdraws case of molestation and extortion against former MLA
Hyderabad: Telugu Desam government has withdrawn a case of molestation and extortion against former MLA of Kovvur T.V. Rama Rao. What was initially a rape and murder case, was later altered to a molestation case while filing the chargesheet against Mr Rama Rao, who runs a nursing college.
The TD government, based on the former MLA’s representation that the charges against him were ‘petty allegations’, issued orders on Wednesday withdrawing the prosecution. The case had been filed in 2009 during YSR’s regime and pertains to the alleged molestation of five nursing students from Kerala studying in Spruha College of Nursing at Nidadavolu run by Mr Rama Rao.
He was arrested and released on bail. The state had also suspended operation of his nursing school Spruha Educational Society after health officials found the institute in violation of rules. The Kovvur police, who had probed the allegations, had stated that there was no evidence and closed the case. The case was then handed over to the CID, which filed the charge-sheet.
AP home department’s principal secretary B. Prasada Rao on Wednesday said that government, after examining the records, has decided to withdraw the prosecution against Mr Rama Rao.
