Former MP's visit to hills was celebration time for DMK cadres

Ooty: The visit on Tuesday of former Nilgiris MP A.Raja to the hills his first visit after losing the Lok Sabha polls this May became a time for celebration for DMK cadres. The bursting of crackers and raising of slogans in praise of him suggested that Mr Raja was still an uncrowned king of sorts in the region who continued to enjoy the party’s support.
Mr Raja, whose name is synonymous with the 2G spectrum scam, addressed a few party meetings, hoisted the party flags at quite a few spots and went around the main roads in the hill towns of Coonoor and Ooty, residents standing in surprised witness, as the defeated DMK candidate tried to make an impact through the road show.
Speaking to media persons, Mr Raja touched upon the Hindustan Photo Films issue. He said that the company was almost facing closure and there was no one in the present government to fight its cause.
He said that the prices of tea had also come down, subjecting small tea growers to misery. Mr Raja said that the poor state of roads in the Nilgiris, including the Ooty-NH, reflected that the administration had failed to do anything fruitful. When asked whether he would enter state politics by contesting the assembly polls in 2016, he said that only his party leadership could decide that.
