Students engineer CNG-run bike
The bike was made keeping rising cost of petrol and polluting nature in mind
Hyderabad: With the rising cost of petrol and its polluting nature in mind, the second year students of Lords Institute of Engineering and Technology from the mechanical department converted a Pulsar-220 CC petrol bike into an operative Compressed Natural Gas bike. Mohammed Ahmed, a second year student, came up with the idea, along with seven other batchmates: Mohammed Shahrukh, Vainateya, Saif Bin Abdullah, Abubakar Pasha, Mohammed Munawwar, Mohammed Muzaffar and Mohammed Ali Junaid.
“We fixed on inlet and one outlet to the vapouriser which is connected to the carburettor (sends gas and air to the engine with its limited quantity) and then arranged it so that the engine works,” Mr Ahmed said. However, due to the intricate engineering, the students said the bike could be a bit expensive.
“The bike gives 30 per cent more savings than a petrol one. We just spent Rs1,500 to modify the tank and install a CNG kit. It is a one time investment and you are also helping nature. Petrol is expensive for students, hence we came up with this economical and nature-friendly idea,” he added.
