Shut liquor shops in residential areas: PMK
S Ramadoss said party would stage a protest demanding closure
Chennai: PMK on Tuesday announced that it would stage a protest here demanding closure of liquor shops located in residential areas. PMK founder S. Ramadoss, a vocal supporter of prohibition, said he will lead the party protest on September 2
In a release here, he lauded Kerala government for its new prohibition policy which would be a trendsetter for other southern states to follow it. Dr Ramadoss alleged that the state government has failed to enforce the orders of the Madras high court on closing liquor shops. He said that last year Madurai bench had asked the government to close down the liquor shops in the village if the grama sabha adopted a resolution in this regard.
The court ordered closure of the shops located in the residential areas, he said, adding that he would lead a demonstration on September 2 seeking enforcement of the high court orders.
