Boy dies after fall in school

Parents allege negligence by hospital, doctors say boy was beaten by dad
Hyderabad: Parents of a Class VIII student, Satyanarayan, have alleged that their son died due to negligence of doctors at the Indo-US Hospital at Ameerpet. The 13-year-old boy was admitted to the hospital with a fracture in the hand. A case was registered at Ameerpet police station in this regard. The boy fell from the bench in his school and had a fracture. He was treated at the hospital on August 18 and sent home. However, on August 23, he returned to the hospital with swollen legs.
The doctors carried out tests, but could not diagnose what happened and discharged him. On August 25, his skin turned black and he died. A group of 100 men approached the hospital and claimed that the child died due to negligence of the doctor. The hospital refuted the allegations of the parents. “There were no signs or symptoms of infection or any critical condition. The tests didn’t reveal anything wrong with the child,” a senior doctor said.
Another senior doctor explained, “While we empathise with the parents, we do not understand why 100 men came to the hospital demanding compensation. If something was medically wrong with the child, they could have gone to the consumer court and filed a case. Why create a scene in the hospital and trouble other patients?” The Ameerpet police station registered a case under negligence, IPC Section 304 A, against the hospital.
Balala Hakkula Sangham, a child rights organisation, which demanded action against the hospital for negligence, also sought an investigation in the school where the child was reportedly injured. Dr C. Shekar, senior cardio thoriac surgeon at Indo-US Hospital, said, “The child came to the hospital for a fracture. However, the history of the child was that his father beat him and his mother. The child was beaten everyday and even after suffering from a hand fracture, the assault continued. His legs were swollen due to the beating as per preliminary post-mortem report.”
