Haricharan sings nine songs for A R Rahman
A R Rahman was composing songs for Kaaviya Thalaivan
Chennai: For any playback singer, it’s like a dream come true if he or she manages to sing even one song, composed by Rahman. But Haricharan has been blessed with the opportunity to sing nine songs composed by the legendary musician in Kaaviya Thalaivan, he being the voice of actor Siddharth in the film.
“Initially I was called only for one song in the film, but then, I sang nine as many felt that I should lend my voice for Siddharth in all the songs to maintain a uniform feel throughout the film. The songs are completely in the classical genre and are faithful to the storyline of the film as it’s about the life of a theatre artistes who lived in the 1930s, set against the backdrop of Madurai. Every song was recorded live, the instruments and lyrics used have been justified to those periods. I have learnt a lot from Rahman sir merely by sitting in front of him for spontaneous classical singing sessions. He is a real genius who taught me how to sing with creativity. The ‘Mr. Minor’ song in the film is more like a ballroom dance song, and I personally love it,” says Haricharan, who has also sung for Imman in Prabhu Solomon’s upcoming film, Kayal.
