‘They owe me money too’

The fight for ‘borrowed’ money continues between Bellamkonda Suresh and the Manchu family
Hyderabad: The face-off between producer Bellamkonda Suresh and the Manchu family over unpaid debts continued on Wednesday. The producer owes Rs 58 lakh to the Manchu family for using Gandharvamahal, owned by Manchu Lakshmi, for shooting Rabhasa.
On Wednesday, Suresh was due to attend the launch of his son’s new film, but representatives of Manchu Entertainment barred his way by parking their vehicles in front of his office.
Suresh confirms that Rabhasa is still set for August 29 release and says, “The present problem has nothing to do with the release of my film.”
Asked about the problem with the Manchu family, he adds, “They too owe some money to me. When I ask about it, they don’t want to talk, but they are asking for their amount.”
Suresh had given an advance of Rs 30 lakh to Manchu Manoj for a film and another Rs 10 lakh to Mohan Babu. “Manoj was supposed to work with Suresh some time back but the project had not materialised; but Manoj did not return the advance,” says a source.
Suresh even asked Manchu Entertainment to deduct the amount from what he owed them. “But the Manchu family has not agreed,” says the source.
Meanwhile, both parties have booked cases with the Banjara Hills police station. While Bellamkonda Suresh, in his complaint, has claimed that he was assaulted by film workers, the Manchus have said that the producer owes them money. While the police is yet to file an FIR, sources at the police station say that the most likely outcome will be that a case will be slapped on both the parties. The Manchu family has also lodged a complaint with the AP Film Chamber and Producer Council.
“This is not a big issue and will be resolved amicably between the two,” says a top producer. Interestingly Bellamkonda Suresh started his film career as production manager with Mohan Babu.
