Indian ayurveda college claims Ebola cure

Ayurveda text mentions Raktasthivi Sannipaat with striking resemblance to Ebola symptoms

Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh: The Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Ayurvedic College in Allahabad claims to have “rediscovered” a cure for the deadly Ebola virus.

“The classical Ayurveda text called Yog Ratnakar mentions a disease called Raktasthivi Sannipaat that bears a striking resemblance to the symptoms of the Ebola disease. The symptoms like spitting out blood, fever and excessive vomiting along with thirst, short breath, delirium and diarrhoea are found in both,” said Prof. G.S. Tomar, head of the department of Kaya-Chikitsa in the college.

According to him, the Yog Ratnakar includes all essential features related to Ayurveda concepts, practices, procedures, formulations and recommends a decoction of herbs like nagarmotha, padmakashtha, shwet chandan, pittapapada, chameli, shatavari, mulaithi, meethi neem, chitrak and rakta chandan for the management of hemorrhagic fever that occurs in Eloba-afflicted patients.

Prof. Tomar said that Ayurveda says that germs can develop and multiply in the body only when immunity becomes weak.

“The immunity system must be boosted so that the body can fight against germs and prevent diseases like these. We have dealt with such cases in the past and the success rate has been appreciably high,” he said. He said that herbs like ashwagandha, guduchi, tulsi, giloi, pippali, bhulamla, and mulaithi are known to have properties of immune-modulator and plays a key role in checking viral and bacterial outbreak. He said that the outbreaks of diseases like the Eloba were seen even in ancient periods.
