Andhra Pradesh ‘local policy’ makes it easy for Telangana

The TS government has to declare its fee reimbursement policy soon

Hyderabad: The decision of the Andhra Pradesh government to limit the fee waiver scheme only to locals has made the job easier for the Telangana state government to come out with its own guidelines. The TS government had kept its orders on hold as the proposal to fix 1956 as the cut-off year for determining had drawn flak from the AP government, which threatened to approach the Supreme Court.

Now that AP too has confined the scheme to locals, the TS government is all set to come out with its guidelines in a day or two and this bring clarity regarding the eligibility of students for the scheme. Due to the confrontation between both state governments over eligiblity for the scheme, the entire admission process for professional courses had been delayed in both the states. Eamcet engineering counselling is being held due to the timely intervention of the SC. Once the seat allotment is out, students will have to pay the college fees. It would be difficult for students from poorer sections who took part in counselling solely relying on the fees reimbursement scheme to pay the fees.

Unless the TS government comes out with its eligibility norms, it would not be possible to allot seats for any course in both the states, since common admissions are being conducted. Principal secretary to the TS government Raymond Peter had drafted the guidelines and referred them to the CM for approval nearly a month ago. The approval was delayed due to the CM’s foreign tour last week.

However, with the SC giving clear-cut directions to both states to complete admissions by August 31 and start classes by September 1, the TS government has to declare its fee reimbursement policy soon.
