10% more idols go to Tank Bund
Due to the lack of rains, at least 10 per cent more idols to come to Hussainsagar
Hyderabad:The city will celebrate Ganesh Utsav this year with the installation of about one lakh Ganesh idols. Last year, the city had about 70,000 idols. Moreover, due to the lack of rains this season, at least 10 per cent more idols are likely to come to the Hussainsagar for immersion from the city’s neighbouring areas.
Besides the Hussainsagar, the authorities have identified 21 lakes in the city for immersion. Discussions on various issues related to the festival including provision of basic facilities like uninterrupted power supply to the pandals, drinking water supply to the devotees on the day of idol immersion, mobile toilets, stand-by cranes and exemption from seeking permissions for setting up pandals were held on Monday.
“In a meeting with the Deputy Chief Minister, home minister, excise minister and senior police officials, it was decided that people need not seek any permission for setting up pandals. Just an intimation is enough,” said Shashidhar, the secretary of the Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samiti.
