Chennai: “There is nobody in this world who doesn’t have a craze for bikes and cars,” says Atharvaa, who is all geared up for the release of his next film, Irumbhu Kuthirai (Iron Horse) which revolves around two gangs who are professional bikers. “I always had this dream to work in a film which is based on motorsport, and when Yuvaraj narrated the script to me, I accepted immediately. The film will be loved by today’s youngsters.” He has also taken a crash course in bike racing in Italy.
Atharvaa’s last film, the award-winning Paradesi, won him rave reviews from critics, and expectations are running high for Irumbhu Kuthirai too. “Paradesi was an off-beat period film. Irumbhu Kuthirai is a racy, stylish action-entertainer. Bikers will love it. I play the role of a pizza delivery guy in the film, who is also into bike racing. Raai Lakshmi plays a biker in the film and Priya Anand is my love interest. Priya has an energy level I have not seen in any of my co-stars. When she is on the sets, everything turns more lively and vibrant. She is brilliant as an actor and a gem of a person,” Atharvaa says.
The actor is sporting a six-pack for his next film, Eeti, in which he plays the role of an athlete. “I am a hurdler in the film and the shoot for it is almost over. I must do justice to whatever role I am playing in each film,” he says. “I want to look like an athlete if that is what the role demands. That’s why I decided to sport a six pack for it, despite shooting for three films continuously.”
He says that his fitness schedule has him leaving his house at 4 am every day for a workout, spending a minimum of two hours at the gym. He also follows a strict diet. “As I am juggling between shoots, it was quite hard to be on a diet as it sometimes made me fatigued. But it was a great experience. Now I know how to manage my time.”
Atharvaa has teamed up with National Award winning director Bala once again for his next film, whom he credits with shaping him as an actor. But this time, Bala is producing the film and Sarkunam is directing it. “Bala sir and I had discussed doing another film together long ago. Many scripts came in, but none of them were interesting. Then one day, he called and asked if I would like to act in Sarkunam’s film. I agreed blindly, trusting him completely. The shoot has already begun,” he says.
