Net domain in Indian languages
Hyderabad: Internet domains will be available in a number of Indian languages like Boro, Hindi, Konkani, Marathi and Sindhi from August 27.
This will allow users and domain investors to access information in their chosen language. This will be followed up with domain names in other languages including Telugu, Bengali, Gujarati, Urdu, Tamil and Punjabi. The announcement was made at the International Domain Conference held to mark World Domain Day at Madhapur on Sunday.
“The domain names will be available in Indian Languages. Domain names Bharat in Devanagri script covers Indian languages like Boro, Hindi, Dogri, Konkani, Mythili, Marathi, Nepali and Sindhi. For example, nixi, bharat will be for Hindi. This is going to be followed up with domain names in other languages including Bengali, Telugu, Gujarati, Urdu, Tamil and Punjabi,” said Dr Govind, CEO, of National Internet Exchange of India.
He said Nixi would be working towards promotion of internet in rural areas and called for larger participation on issues pertaining to public policy and critical internet resources. Mr Prakhar Bindal, CEO, World Domain Day, said marketers would innovative options. Those owning restaurants, for example, could opt for domain names like food, menu, .eat, dine.
