Digvijay Singh calls on Congress party to find Telangana roots
Hyderabad: AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh on Sunday asked the Telangana Congress to fight against the TRS government for not implementing its poll promises even after two months of coming to power.
Addressing the inaugural meeting of the two-day workshop organised by Telangana Congress at a private engineering college in Seriguda near Ibrahimpatnam, 40 km from here on Sunday, the AICC leader said the party which suffered a humiliating defeat in the recent general elections should stand up and take up public issues to win over majority of the people to regain power in the state.
However, he lamented that the party leaders failed to propagate the Telangana cause despite Mrs Sonia Gandhi taking pains to grant a separate state which was being demanded for over six decades.
He said the Congress workers and leaders could still go to the people and explain to them about the Telangana issue and also identify people’s problems and fight for them so that people support the party.
Mr Digvijay Singh also criticised the Narendra Modi government and said, “The Prime Minister has turned out to be a ribbon cutting PM inaugurating projects that were conceived and executed by the Congress-led UPA government. Mr Modi promised several things, but is not implementing anything new other than those envisioned by the UPA government,” Mr Digvijay Singh said.
“People have started realising this slowly, and the Congress should be vigilant to take on the NDA government at Delhi and also against the TRS government in Telangana,” Mr Singh added.
Referring to the Telangana issue, Mr Singh asked the party leaders to discuss and debate what actually went wrong for the party while encashing on the Telangana sentiment.
He has asked the leaders to come out with concrete suggestions on how to rejuvenate the party in the region and its preparedness to take on public issues.
TPCC president Ponnala Lakshmaiah and many other leaders spoke during the inaugural session.
