Was told to omit scam names claimed former comptroller and auditor-general Vinod Rai

New Delhi / Hyderabad: In what may come as further embarrassment to the UPA, former comptroller and auditor-general Vinod Rai has claimed that the previous government at the Centre had deputed politicians to get him to leave out names from audit reports on ‘Coalgate’ and Commonwealth Games scams.

Mr Rai also claimed UPA leaders had even deputed his colleagues in the IAS, to which he belonged before his appointment as CAG, to persuade him to leave out some names. Mr Rai is critical of the UPA government in his upcoming book.

In fresh embarrassment to Congress, especially former PM Manmohan Singh, ex-CAG Vinod Rai has claimed he was pressurised by the UPA regime to drop certain names from audit reports in Coalgate and Commonwealth Games scams, triggering a political row.

Like some of the books including those by the media adviser of the former PM Sanjay Baru, and former external affairs minister Natwar Singh and former coal secretary P.C. Parakh that have been severe on Manmohan Singh and his government, Mr Rai is penning his views in his forthcoming book “Not Just An Accountant” to be released in October, that will be critical of the UPA regime.

Mr Rai claimed that some UPA coalition functionaries had deputed politici-ans to get him leave out certain names in this regard.
He Rai he has also claimed that UPA functionaries had roped in even his IAS colleagues to persuade him to leave out names.
