Narendra Modi mania grips Ganesha festival even after polls
People of Sheelavantar Oni flagged off Ganesha festival after ribbon was cut by Modi idol
Hubli: People of Sheelavantar Oni here may not have succeeded in inviting Prime Minister Narendra Modi to flag off the Ganesha festival in their layout. But, they have fulfilled their dream by having a ribbon cut by Modi’s idol. They are also showcasing him along with Bharat Mata in Ganesha pendals to display their patriotic spirit during the festival. In fact, Modi mania is still very much evident during the Ganesha festival in Hubli-Dharwad twin cities even three months after the Lok Sabha elections.
Modi fans have built a beautiful fountain and have installed a 45-kg silver Ganesha statue to attract more people to witness Mr Modi inaugurating the Jambu Savari procession. They have also spent around Rs 20 lakh to celebrate the festival with grandeur. “The Modi wave continues to prevail in Hubli-Dharwad even after the Lok Sabha elections. Moreover, the region has been a fortress of the BJP for more than two decades. We are also displaying Modi’s vision to make India corruption-free” said Ganesh Utsav Mandal secretary Shivalinga Kamadollishettar.
Ganesha idols will be installed at more than 400 public venues in the twin cities. There is stiff competition among thousands of Ganesh Utsav committees in the twin cities to display current events. These committees spend lakhs of rupees for preparation of idols and construction of pendals by generating funds through auctioning of pooja material on immersion day. Several youth organisations have taken up the task of spreading awareness about environment-friendly Ganesh idols.
