Bihar by-polls: Lalu-Nitish win 6 out of 10, say ‘secular alliance’ to continue

‘Our alliance experiment successful as voters have recognised the real character of BJP’

Patna: RJD President Lalu Prasad on Monday expressed happiness over the secular alliance winning six out of the 10 seats for which by-election were held in Bihar and said the alliance would continue in future too.

Bihar RJD President Ramchandra Purbey communicated Prasad's reaction over bypoll results to reporters here as the RJD supremo is undergoing treatment at a Mumbai hospital.

"Alliance will continue in the coming Assembly polls," Purbey said quoting Prasad.

Out of 10 seats that went to bypoll, BJP won 4, RJD 3, JD(U) 2 and Congress 1.

Joining celebration at the RJD state headquarters, Purbey said, "Our alliance experiment has been successful as the voters have recognised the real character of the BJP. They have realised that BJP is not a political party but one which spreads religious hysteria and communalism in its efforts to grab power."

Seeking to belittle BJP, Purbey pointed out that the margin of votes on four seats won by BJP is just around 35,200 votes while the combined margin of RJD,JD (U) and Congress alliance's victory on six seats is over 1.35 lakh votes.

"Take the case of Parbatta constituency from where our alliance candidate Ramanand Prasad Singh has been elected by a whopping margin of 56,990 votes. It is more than the margin of all four BJP candidates. It's an indication that BJP is losing ground among the voters and their ploys won't succeed any further," Purbey added.

"The alliance is nascent, but has begun on a successful note. It will continue not only in the 2015 Bihar Assembly elections, but will also expand on a national level. It is an alliance on the basis of the aspirations and wishes of the public," said Purbey.
