After uproar, BJP drops ‘love jihad’
Lucknow: Following the uproar over its decision to oppose ‘love jihad’ and conversion of Hindus, the BJP dropped these terms from its political resolution, passed in the Uttar Pradesh state executive meeting on Sunday.
However, key points in the political resolution indicate that polarization will continue be a crucial part of the BJP’s future strategy for UP. Interestingly, both, BJP president Amit Shah and Union home minister Rajnath Singh gave a miss to the meetings “due to pre-occupations.”

Party sources said that the terms ‘love jihad’ and ‘conversion’ was hotly debated upon but not included in the political resolution since it was felt that the issue may snowball into a national controversy and dent the image of the Modi government.
The resolution notes that accused in many ‘crimes against women of one community’ belong to ‘one particular community’ and that instance of communal tension are rising due to such crimes against women.
Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav targeted BJP MP Hema Malini on the issue of love jihad and said that the Bollywood star turned politician had no qualms about acting in movies which showed such relationships. He further said that ‘love jihad’ was coined by some Hindu to polarise politics.
